The real world gold solidus of the late Roman and Byzantine Empire weighed about 4.5 grams. Or 1/72 of a Roman pound (which was about 326.6 grams).
A modern (avoirdupois) pound is 453.6 grams, so 100 gold solidi per pound is plenty close enough.
