Some one is manipulating events in New England in the 17th century. They've introduced a far wider variety of garden plants than existed in New England in that period. Of course, since New England was a part of the Atlantic trade networks from the founding of Boston onwards, this could just be a natural variation.
Tightly researching this sort of thing just as the relationship between the Native peoples and the English settlers is breaking down ahead of King Phillip's War will be tricky.
