Armored Wings?

To me, Flying (Winged) means your flight depends on aerodynamism provided by wings. The wi gs are not a special effect, they are the means that makes flying possible. Accordingly, to retain the abilty to fly would require armor somehow contrived not to spoil the wings' lift and control surfaces. That would be some very special armor indeed that the character would have to obtain and the player convince me would work.
