Counter Facing...

I find the standard facing of heads to the front... weird. It always looks to me like they're standing back-to-back. In the games I'm playing we have always used feet first for Front. Does anyone else do this?

Does anyone know why the head-first facing was first chosen?

In the debate over whether it is better to go toe-to-toe or head-to-head, one could argue that if one were to stand the counters up like cardboard heroes, toe-to-toe would make more sense, since the figures would then be facing the correct way.
