Although what I'm trying to figure out how to properly stat out is this: the per capita murder rate in Cabot Cove and environs -- in a state that otherwise has the lowest rate of violent crime per capital in the US -- was half again higher than that of Medellin during the Escobar cartel's heyday. Just to put it in perspective, if only one local was bumped off per episode in the show's first season, that's half again as many homicide victims than the entire State of Maine suffered in 1985. It was eyecatching enough for the term "Cabot Cove syndrome" to be coined over it.
My wife was a fan of the show, and her take was that Fletcher had to be protected by some heavy supernatural powers not to be considered by the mob to be responsible -- didn't death follow her everywhere she went? -- and to be subsequently torn to pieces or whacked by some one to appease God and send the Demon Fletcher to Hell. What would you price that as?
