flask of glue question

here is the scenario:
player A is fighting a monster that he cannot kill and must run away.
he rolls the die and wins the escape.
player B plays flask of glue forcing a second roll attempt.

the question is, at this point in the game, can player A play any cards such as instant wall or baby oil or anything else to escape combat or is he forced to roll the dice a second time?
