I writing a story (somewhere on the Internet, no hints) that is loosely based on TFT.
Wizards avoid lugging around a lot of steel to avoid encumbrance penalties and their lack of weapon talents, but there is no additional minus to their spellcasting and they don't have fancy silver weapons. The spells are broader in effect, so both Light and Dazzle are the same spell, just cast with different intensities, costs, and duration. Also Telepathy and Long Range Telepathy are also the same spell. Illusions and Images are much rarer and TK is replaced with a Wind spell. They don't need wizard chests to read a spell out of book, but this still takes a long time and hurts their success chance. While they have fairly effective wand mana they don't have the Aid spell or a bunch of powerstones lying around, but they do have a general Heal spell. The heroes have a broader set of "softer" abilities also. So one of the characters is insanely good with a bow and has Disney princess levels of animal handling. Another has strength that's more from the Superpowers article than the main rules, and so on. And there's this priestess who has vaguely clerical abilities, but the setting is agnostic of course.
