Default Off label uses for the Lock spell

  1. Can you cast Lock on your belt pouch? (Or is it better to just carry your dagger-staff in the closing loop of the belt pouch?)
  2. Assuming the GM rules that the Lock spell is immobile, can you then Lock handholds up a cliff? (If so how many levels of Lock does it take to support a goblin's weight?)

Allowing Lock on a belt pouch or handhold seems like a remarkably liberal interpretation of "etc."

The Curse of Katiki-Mu mentions using a Knock spell against a lock on a mobile trunk. So the spell is for more than doors.

A lock on a mobile trunk is still a lock.

Hands holding onto a cliff is not a lock. A belt pouch does not typically have a lock. If you put a padlock on a belt pouch, then you could Knock/Lock the lock. Of course, a padlock on a soft material contain is mostly pointless. Why cast Knock when a knife can slice it open?

You plan to carry a dangerously unstable explosive immediately adjacent to your genitals, so that only those who don't recognise it as explosive will set it off.

My take has always been a Staff explosion isn't possible while the Staff is still technically in the possession of the wizard. A wand stuck through the belt or a staff strapped on the back to be out of the way shouldn't be dangerous. You shouldn't be able to blow up a wizard with a friendly pat on the back, or an unfriendly one for that matter. And a small one worn on their person is bound to come in some contact with other people in HTH combat -- I wouldn't let that blow up either.

Just start with Staff V and the point is moot.

The Staff spell specifically mentions "Doing the fool who touched it 3 dice damage". I think that wording means that the 'explosion' isn't area of effect and is instead a single target effect. So no, the exploding dagger staff won't damage the wizard's genitals when it explodes in the hand of the would be thief.

A Lock spell might be of use if the wizard uses a quick release peace tie to secure the dagger into a scabbard. Cast a lock on the knot. If anyone but the wizard tugs on the cord, the knot stays firm. Of course, the wizard can bypass her own lock knot with a simple tug.

Don't see a problem with casting a lock on a pouch opening. But as noted, unless the pouch is exceptionally tough, fairly simple to bypass with a knife.

Using it as a 'glue' spell to attach hand holds to cliff sides seems a bit much.
