Default Can a Wizard charm a Giant Skunk?

I wasn't able to find this in the forum nor FAQ already, so apologies if I missed it.

Can another player as Wizard (base set) charm a Giant Skunk (unnatural axe expansion)? I.e. can one of the other players who is a Wizard discard their hand to charm away a Giant Skunk that a different player is facing?

Opponents argued that by the intent of the card, the Wizard couldn't get close enough to charm the skunk. Proponents argued that because the card specifies backstab and playing cards as separate (illegal) options, the other class abilities were not affected by the skunk's stink.

A wizard can't charm a monster in someone else's combat, unless the wizard is the helper. (See the FAQ question: "Can a Wizard use his charm ability if he's not involved in the combat?")

Since the Giant Skunk prevents anyone from helping, there is no way for the wizard to charm the monster in this scenario.

Ah - we do allow Wizards to charm monsters during someone else's combat, but I see now that makes this a house rule situation. Thank you for the clarification!
