Default Video review of Dungeon Fantasy

I did some demos of the game at NTRPG con and posted a review to my YouTube channel (CHECK IT OUT).

I put a lot of hours into making up custom character sheets that broke down the rules for new players. I wasn't sure if I could share those or not.

Thanks for doing this! Looking forward to watching it.

Edit: good review! Two comments:

1.) You can actually use square grids rather than hex grids. (Or you can use pure Theater of the Mind.) Not much has to change on a square grid with 3' squares; if the grid is 5' squares you either redefine each square as 3', or you use the grid only to eyeball distances but still allow three guys to stand shoulder to shoulder in two 5' squares (3' each with some room left over).

2.) Scouts never get three arrows a turn because Rapid Strike is only for melee in DFRPG, and Scouts don't get Extra Attack 2. The eventual kings of ranged combat are therefore martial artists, who can eventually make four attacks per turn via Dual Weapon Attack + Extra Attack 2, or eight with Uninterrupted Flurry.

Great review.

I think it's ok to share customized character sheets. In fact, there's a thread in the Resources subforum for sharing fan made stuff like that.

If you use square grid there's a lot of interpolation going on! It's best to get a clear overlay map.

I don't know about the Martial Artist, I'd go with the Knight. As to the Scout, correct it is only one shot per turn, but remember 1 turn = 1 second! Scout can typically pull of one shot per turn, provided they make a Fast Draw (Arrow) roll. If they make a normal miss, it will mean they'll have to slow down to make a shot in two turns. A critical fail on FD(bow) means arrows are fumbled and spill out on the ground etc.

Scouts are really power characters, not just due to speed of attack, but also precision skill. Shooting many enemies in the eye will critically wound them if not provide an instant kill. Of course, there are lots of monsters who are immune to this or greatly limit it. Most normal humanoids (halfling, human, elf, dwarf, etc) are arrow fodder.

Wizards can be pretty powerful as they have access to Area of Attack (AoE) spells. They can also use spells like Explosive Fireball and Explosive Lightning which can impact multiple enemies in close proximity (but be careful they'll also hit allies in that same close proximity). Friendly fire can happen in GURPS.

I was nitpicking the video segment starting at 7:02, about archers getting three shots a turn and killing three orcs with three arrows per second. I'm just saying that two arrows is the maximum. (Barring Great Haste.)

Why would two arrows be the maximum? All-Out Attack combined with Heroic Archer seems like I could do 2 attacks right out of the box. A third with Extra Attack later.

All Out Attack (Double) gives you an extra MELEE attack, but the only ranged option for All Out Attack is +1 to hit. See Exploits pg 30, All Out Attack.

"If making a ranged attack, you simply get +1 to hit."

Exploits P. 30

All-Out Attack. Double. Make two attacks against the same foe.

I'm not sure what clever place they have hidden the rule that requires these to be melee attacks, but if that is the rule I certainly would have put it right there on P. 30 for clarity.

It is on pg 30, italicized even.

If making a melee attack, specify one of four options when you choose your maneuver... [Blah blah blah Double]... If making a ranged attack, you simply get +1 to hit.

If that's what the rule is intending to convey, it needs a re-write. I still am not getting that interpretation upon a careful re-reading of the rule.

EDIT: For those interested in the character sheets I made for the pre-gens, you can download them from my BLOG PAGE.
