Let's say that I find in a dungeon an enchanted ring belonging to a giant or to a tiny faerie... what can I do with it?
Can I still make use of its magic properties even if carrying/wielding the object in an "unorthodox way"? What if the under/oversized item is a piece of clothing, armor or a weapon? Are there any rules to manage the situation? |

I haven't seen specific rules about this, but there may be something out there in the GURPS universe. With magic, though, it usually comes down to "whatever the group wants to do." Seems like these sorts of things are campaign level decisions.
In every game that I've played in, for example, rings are universally sized. They grow or shrink to fit the wearer. I think that's typically how D&D manages it. Alternately, it could be super cool for a giant's ring to be a bracelet or torc. A faerie ring might be attached to a hook and made into an earring. Whether they would work or not under such unorthodox circumstances, again, is a setting decision. Resizing a ring (or other magic item) might risk messing up its properties. At the very least, I would require players to locate a special smith who has skill working with such items. Perhaps they need to roll vs. the lower of their jeweler or thaumatology skill. (Or succeed at both.) With armor, in DFRPG, I tend to assume that it is sized for a race and that it is otherwise adjustable. So elf armor works for elves, but not for dwarves. I've played with groups that handle that differently. |

That's usually down to how the GM has the world work, or if the group wants to do things a certain way. I've done both "everything resizes, cause it's magic" and "nothing resizes, unless it's specifically enchanted to do so" (which would make it more expensive).
But no I'm thinking about a "ring of rings", it's a ring with tiny fairy rings set into it... or even "enchanted ring mail", a mail shirt made out of enchanted rings with weird and random properties depending on which ring you're activating at the moment... |

That sounds hyperexpensive, as well as being something a lot of GMs would refuse to allow outside of a silly game.

It wasn't really "OP" because how often do you need to summon in a single fully grown apple tree that lasts only 24 hours (as an example of one of the enchantments which was limited to once per day)? It was what I'd call "OP for ease of living" in that you always had food, water, some level of shelter, odd tools, etc... but it wasn't like +6 to kill everything and +6 all damage types, etc, or that sort of nonsense. |
