Default Re: Minus vs dash symbol?

SJ Games is idiosyncratic in its use of mid-height horizontal lines:
- . . . A hyphen. We use it to join words (as in "mid-height" above), to break a word between syllables at the end of a line, to create number ranges (like "1-10") and to indicate relations (as in "Chinese-Russian discussions") where others might use an en dash, as a minus (as in "sw-2") where others might use a true minus, and as a separator where others might use a figure dash (as in a phone number like "867-5309").

. . . A true minus (which may or may not show up as such for you). We do not use it at all. Others use it as, well, a minus sign. We do not.

. . . A figure dash (which may or may not show up as such for you). We do not use it at all. Others use it to separate groups of digits (as in a phone number like "867‒5309"). We do not.

. . . An en dash. We use it to set off a parenthesis – not one in parentheses (), but an aside like this – or as a break, interruption, or colon substitute. We always put a space on either side. We also use it to open quote attributions. Others often use this mark to join words in complex compounds (say, "North American–style restaurant" as opposed to "North-American-style restaurant), to create number ranges (like "1–10"), and the indicate relations (as in "Chinese–Russian discussions"). We do not.

. . . An em dash. We do not use it at all. Others use it the way we use en dashes—like this—usually without spaces, including in quote attributions. We do not.
There are still others, but these are the most likely. Anyway, what matters is that SJ Games uses only the hyphen-minus on the keyboard for almost all of these purposes and more, and a spaced en dash where others might use a non-spaced em dash.
