1) A small product adapting those elements in the SRD that actually need licensing produces new options for DF/GURPS games that otherwise the publisher couldn't publish.
2) A small product adapting those elements in the SRD that need licensing makes it easier at the margin to attract people from the D&D audience, which then enlarges the market for a publisher to sell other DF/GURPS product.
But, sure, there's
