Knee Pads of Allure

Question- say you are battling a monster and another player helps the monster, can you use the knee pads to get that person to help you or can they not be convinced because they already played against you? If the do have to help you, is it the whole round or can they also play against you while helping? Please help this is causing conflict!!! You all know how Munchkins get!! Thanks in Advance.
