You cannot trade items when either of you are in combat.

You can make any kind of deal you want, but the only type that is strictly enforceable is the treasure distribution from winning a combat. It is generally agreed that other types of deals are enforceable, as long as they are completed immediately after combat. Deals involving future turns are not enforceable.
