Peter looks into the local magic... and is steadfastly told that it is gifts from the Gods, not magic. They used to have a lot more, but it stopped working when the world broke. People like Kyridas are the exception... and one of the reasons the priesthoods have not been dismantled. Instructions on Kyridas's gift are limited to the words to say*, which incense to burn** and the pattern to wave the burning incense in. There are a few other gifts known, including the ability to open and close gates, and to heal.
* A prayer invoking all the gods at once and the connection between the worlds, An invokation of Arn-Oda, dead sky god and king of the gods, and a series of chanted holy words that have meaning, but its obscured by confusing theology.

Making Karana Smoke goes about as well as expected... the clothing stays for a while, then dissipates.
I think its time to explain the stats I'm using for Karana:
- Peter has 10 ER for Karana... possibly less if he's using other magic (this is part of the unusual background 'can use any magic')
- Any amount of ER can be sunk into the creature, but a 20lb creation requires at least 2
- Each ER powers 5 minutes of the creature's existence
- If you have no ER, you can make them at -4 to skill.
- When damaged they loose 1 ER per minute per point of damage... they're homogeneous, of course, and I reserve the right to give them additional defenses against very small holes.
- There is one skill to shape and form the smoke at all, and other for phsysiology/structure, as already explained.
