Maybe I have it wrong, but it seems to leave them to rebuild it seems very risky, and if getting in once is hard, getting in a second time is going to be nigh impossible.
Well, getting a bit more meta than I like, I think it's basically setup to force us to get behind the second wall either way we cut it. We either trash the wall and change all the plans, or we rebuild the wall ourselves.
