Can I change class/race at resolution of a card?
For instance: If I opened the door and got a curse, can I change to Orc to avoid it? Or must I wait until the curse resolved?

You have to resolve the Curse first.

Adding this to clarify, just in case: a card that says you may *play* it to cancel a Curse, such as a Wishing Ring, can still be used. The Orc must already be in play to cancel a Curse, however, because it doesn't say it can be played as a response.
