8G vs 10G slug damage

I noticed when converting shotgun damage from shotshell to slugs you would get the same damage code for an 8 gauge shotgun as you would a 10 gauge. Is that right? Seems the 8 gauge should be doing more, but since its shotshell damage is 2d-1 for both, the 8 gauge just has more pellets, you get the same damage code for a slug on both.
