but, if that crossbowman is standing IN a doorway (vertical cover), leaning half out, he is also -2 to shoot back, and gets no "bracing" bonus.

Crossbowmen do much better (both offensively & defensively) when lying prone or supported/braced like a table, tree limb etc...
