Initiating HTH from behind

So if you initiate HTH and roll a 6 you automatically get hit.

Does that include if you are entering a target's rear side? That happened to one of my players today and they were fairly incrdulous that the opponent got an automatic hit on thei rwolf when they were rushed from behind. But I couldn't see anything that took that into consideration.
