Shapeshift

I assume the spell was named 'Shapeshift' to separate it from it's D&D counterpart 'Polymorph Other', but the name does imply a magical effect more similar to a Druid's shapechange ability which I'll admit was a bit disappointing when I initially read the description. I believe a temporary version of the spell was presented elsewhere on this forum, however.

Depends on the GM. I would say an age is not a shape, and Shapeshift does not allow you to change age. It's not supposed to be a trivial fountain of youth, which it would be if it did do that.

I believe that the giddest difference is that TFT Shapeshifting changes one living thing into the shape of another living thing where Polymorph Other allows you to change people into inanimate objects.

It is important to note that you need to compare the 1E AD&D Polymorph other and not the 5E D&D equivalent.

It's a long time since I played AD&D but I don't think the Polymorph spells could turn creatures into inanimate objects.
