Volunteering to help a munchkin win the game

In the event one munchkin would like to help another to win a combat that ends the game (to avoid another munchkin winning, for whatever reason), is that acceptable?
All table members ruled against me but there was no official vote. I wanted to aide another player so that the one after him would not win. They said that was "unmunckinly" but I disagree! Spite! Ire! Vengeance upon the now "victor" who was only given the win by discord! What say you, Andrew???
