Here's something I stumbled across while looking on BGG for something completely different...

Terrain Tiles

Something like that might be extremely useful to the miniatures enthusiasts among us... And, since they are hexagonally shaped, they would work for the rest of us too. I didn't look at price, since my game budget is tapped out this month, and this is something I'm not hard over on. But I thought many of the rest of you might be interested.

The sets are about $20, the hexes are 2.5", and 70 per set. Bundles available - $50 for 210, and $75 for 420 tiles... in specified sets. Not Mix-n-match.

2.5" tiles are an odd choice...

I wouldn't mind seeing 3" or 3.75" tiles like that....

Something like this would be great for TFT, as a down-the-line expansion product sort of idea. I've been thinking about this for many years, ever since I ran across the terrain overlays that came in the later boxed sets of the original Squad Leader series.

but nowadays is it easy build a "virtual" board with many free programs and print it at any scale. See for example

but I think better resources exist

or just buy one more professional program at a lower price than the cost of the real tiles offered.

I understand that such a board can be built step by step during the adventure, and this is fun, but I still think the GM can just limit to tell to the players what they see during exploration (checking his private map), and let the group to map the terrain by themselves

I think these have great potential. Not just for TFT, but for a plethora of games. There's a potential for, what I call 2.5D games (2 dimensional terrain + 3 dimensional models).

I ordered a small set, after all it was <$25 including postage, to check them out. If I like them, I'll pony up for a big set.

I missed that one. The only advantage I can see to the one I posted versus this one is that the tiles of the one I posted interlock so a sudden sneeze doesn't destroy your map, but this one has better art work I think. I like the "Risers" concept too -- sort of a super big Heroscape set with the ability to mark off sub-hexes within the tiles. I'm guessing you could combine it with Heroscape too, or at least get pretty close. Very nice!

Well, the interlocking tiles are smaller, 2.5", so they work better as a hex grid. At 2.5", two figures, or larger figures with bigger bases will fit.

I have to say that the webpage for these interlocking hexes is horrendous, though. They really, really, need to find a professional website designer. But, if you can figure out how to navigate it and actually find useful information, you might figure out what you need to order.

Something I would like is the availability of regular white cloth, printed with the megahexes -, which can be sprayed over or lightly dyed (to retain the printed hexes) but to create various large outdoor settings - ie, fields or sand etc.

I have a couple that I hand drew with pencil - but they are hex only, not megahex, and do look a bit heath robinson.
