Munckin: Marvel Edition (Mind Gem)

My friends and I recently started playing this game and it is our first munchkin game. While we are playing I use the mind gem card to get help in a Loki fight which offers 5 treasures.

My question is since the mind gem says the person gets first pick of the treasure and there is 5 treasure does he get more than 1 treasure also if there is only 1 treasure does he get that 1 treasure.

Another question can you sell items worth 300 gold total or do you have to sell items equal to 1000 gold to be able to sell at all.
