Default What Is Your Favorite "One-on-One Combat" Basic 24 Point Melee Figure?

I imagine many people understand the overall efficiency benefits of the Fighter with:

ST 10, DX14 (adj.12)
Cutlass (2-2)
Horsebow (1d6)
Dagger (1-1)
Leather Armor (-2 hits)
Small Shield (-1 hit to front)

However, if you had to build one figure, to enter the Melee Arena for a blind 1-on-1 combat (no knowledge of who the enemy will be), right now, *other than* the fighter listed above (no spells, no talents), what would be your favorite figure to enter into Melee with, and how do you usually play him?

Here is my favorite alternative "go to" Melee fighter:

WILD JUNGLE SAVAGE
ST 11, DX 13
Spear (1+1)
Long Bow (1+2)
Dagger (1-1, 1+2)
No Armor
No Shield
TACTICS: Starts with, and takes a minimum of one shot with the bow hoping for an early hit on enemy if not charged right away. Then will change to Pole and charge or be charged for bonus damage, but prefers to stay out of regular combat, and if engaged or can possibly engage, prefers to savagely jump enemy in HTH with dagger for (1+2) and +4DX (adj17) in HTH.

Okay, that's my guy.

Who is your favorite figure to enter into Melee with, and how do you usually play him?

"Roll for Initiative!!!"

Scratch the Horsebow or the Shield from the sample fighter; it's either or, not both.

I was always a fan of:
ST 11
DX 13
Longbow 1+2
Shortsword 2-1
Dagger 1-1

Hoping to get that first hit (or two) at 1+2 to whittle away at the foe before engaging in melee.

Depends very much on who you're facing, but I like this guy...

Horatius
ST 11 DX 13 (adj 9)
Short Sword 2-1
Tower Shield (3)
Leather Armour (2)

I like all the ones you guys mentioned, but the one that always comes immediately to mind for me is simply:

ST 12 Broadsword, dagger
DX 12 Small Shield, no armor

How I play him depends on who my opponent is, and what the terrain is. Against someone with a bow on an empty Melee map, move up enough to be able to engage on turn 2, and Dodge. Then move in to engage.

Yes I like him. He hits twice as often as my Roman but on average only does 2 damage per hit to me, whilst I do 5 to him. I think I have an edge, maybe. But he's more manoeuvrable..

That's what's nice about Melee; there's no perfect combination.
