Steve asked me to work on the project. I cheerfully said yes, of course! What more is there to say, really? ;)
Stefanj is correct -- you're asking for a lengthy interview, and I am in the middle of my workday (illustrating for another publisher's project at the moment). I must keep my reply brief!
Perhaps the most relevant thing to realize is that Steve and I have been friends for decades. He originally came to me for the Melee project because he already knew of my artwork for Tunnels & Trolls (published by Flying Buffalo), and Monsters! Monsters! (originally published by Metagaming). Since then, I've been working professionally in the field nearly nonstop, for more publishers than I can rightly remember, and several were well before Melee. A few games you might recognize in addition to T&T: Battletech and Shadowrun, Advanced Dungeons & Dragons (artist and editor), Lord of the Rings from ICE, Traveller, Magic the Gathering and a few dozen other ccgs, computer game design work for Interplay (Wasteland both 1 and 2; story writer not artist) and concept art for EA. Eventually I was recognized for my contributions with an Origins award Hall of Fame in 1995. My website is gravely out of date and cobwebby -- I'd rather be making new art than fussing with my website -- but it has a few things you can look over: lizdanforth.com.
