Amazon and a female munchkin

Hi,
We played a lot of Munchkin in the past week and encountered a lot of cases where we could not agree on what is legal.

After consulting FAQ and searching online for answers, these questions persist:

2) Amazon
If a female character encounters amazon, she does not fight it (which turned out to be quite annoying when you are level 9 female!), but amazon "just gives them a treasure instead."
I apologise if this is obvious - but does this mean female players get 1 treasure, or both (Amazon gives 2 treasures when defeated in combat). We played it as one as "a" seems quite deliberate.
