Default Safe for the campaign FTL--Coventry or Rustic!

GM's like to do different things.
MANY PC's like/want space ships.
No one wants to destroy the campaign world (Depending on the PC's, this may not be true...)
If there's a desire to tinker slightly with FTL, then have spacefarers arrive in orbit, and initiate some form of first contact, be that orbital bombardment, careful signalling, a hail in plain English, or Gaelic, or whatever, or even landing right in front of a major facility.

Since the only way to get to Coventry's worldline is with a projector-assisted conveyor, the aliens (or human starfarerers) won't be exploring the Infinite Worlds beyond Earth.

Since the stardrive won't work elsewhere, Infinity won't be exploring the Infinite Galaxies, either.

An alternate safe place for weird FTL would be Rustic, with "The Road Not Taken) by Turtledove as the FTL society. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ro...n_(short_story)

You'd need to assume that that FTL doesn't work, either...

There's links to the actual story, but post them, I won't, as I'm not sure if they're legal.

If FTL is discovered anywhere, then thre will, of course, be a rush to test it out elsewhere as well, hoping to find one where it works.

Note: "Safe for the campaign" is a hope, not a certainty, PC's will break anything--even faster than kittens playing.

When I clicked on it, it said do you mean "the road not taken"(short story). Then it went to it, but there was nothing there.

There are quite a few timelines with off world activity by using means impossible elsewhere or involving major aspects of differing physics like planetary distances or pocket realms.
The real problem is having a people drastically more advanced than the main players of Homeline and Centrum, or changing the setting focus from Earth(s) to the entire universe(s) at large.

With the exception of them bothering to communicate with the surface, you've, pretty much described by Infinite Weirdos (link to Denver GURPS board, mildly NSFW language) campaign. Most "communications" involve them spoofing sensors so they can land unmolested and false intelligence to discredit sightings for them. They've just recently gotten control over, what they call, the "Destiny Drive."

The focus of the game, is, really, saving the universe. But, all the party really cares about is saving one, eleven-year-old girl.

That assumes that Homeline's technology is the be-all and end-all of transdimensional travel. In my IW game, Homeline and Centrum's technology is considered basic and cumbersome. The Stalwart Empress's "Destiny Drive" and even Ana's "time capsule" are leaps-and-bounds beyond their capabilities. (Not even bothering to discuss The Source's abilities.)

That is more likely that Infinity isn't going to do the interstellar exploration. And there's no reason that you couldn't develop a stardrive that works in any universe (simply by going to another universe and dropping back in).

The Stalwart Empress has the problem that the "Destiny Drive" has replaced their Hyperdrive, so the ship doesn't have an easy-to-use FTL anymore. The control pylon now provides that level of control, they just have to figure out how to use it.
