Help Me Out Here! - Card

Following situation: Player A is a lvl 7 warrior and is fighting the Shrieking Geek.
In this situation he cannot win the fight, so Player A plays "Help Me Out Here!" card to take an item and win the fight.

Now to my question: Is player A allowed to play "Help Me Out Here!" since he can discard the warrior class and win the fight without use of "Help Me Out Here!".
