The thing is, Jack the Ripper didn't kill anyone famous. He killed a group of prostitutes; it was the surgical precision of the knife, the timing of the attacks, and the fact that the case has basically gone unsolved - with no real "yes, so-and-so was beyond a shadow of a doubt Jack the Ripper" coming forth, although plenty of suspects - that has led to his notoriety.

In many ways, Jack the Ripper is the most famous anonymous serial killer.
