I'd say it doesn't have to me, but it would be a completely trivial thing to build into the spell. You can't have it both ways at once, but designers choice which. There are times when it could be useful to buff somebody without letting them know, and any sort of index that told them how long the effect will last does automatically give away the presence of the effect.
