Reversal of Fortune Question

Last night, I was playing Munchkin with a couple of friends. My friend used Reversal of fortune on himself which made his combat score from an 18 to an 81.

When I used my potion to give him +3 to make him 21 meaning now he should be at 12, all my friends said that he is now 84 instead of 81.

So my question is that is my +3 on his 81 or on his 18?

Because this can me the difference between 84 combat power or 12, essentially changing the tides of the entire encounter.

A. Wrong. Reversal of Fortune is not an instantaneous, one-shot effect – it's in play until the combat is resolved. So you add the +2 to 18 to get 20, and reverse that to 02, or just 2. Nasty!

I'm still wondering if you manage to get a combat strength of 100+, does the Reversal of Fortune card still work? Can I turn a 109 into a 901? :D

thanks I told them, that was how it was viewed and they said no... how can I explain it to them, so that they can understand that the official ruling is that he is now 12 now 84?

Show them the FAQ. If they don't believe the official ruling, then you might as well throw all the rules out of the game and declare yourself the winner. :D

As it says in the FAQ, Reversal of Fortune reverses the numbers on the Kill-O-Meter no matter what they are, so if the Kill-O-Meter total changes, then Reversal of Fortune reverses the NEW number. It doesn't just reverse a combat strength number at the moment it is played, then let you add or subtract from there.

Yes, Reversal of Fortune would make a 109 into a 901, but it would turn a 100 into a marvelous 001!

Calculate your combat strength normally, but read it backward. If your combat strength changes, read the NEW value backward. That's what we should have said from the start.
