Ultra tech is where this shows up the most. I usually do a rundown on a few items. The things that get the most attention are AI, Cybernetics (including uploading tech), genetic engineering, nanotech, and superscience.

Usually players will then poke around for clarifications in the areas they are interested in.

Agreed. The various tech paths described in UT are useful, but only the start.

Usually, but not always. There are those who say, "Well, why not?" when I mention that a certain technology has not been developed, usually from futurists and transhumanists when I mention nanotech, brain uploading, and AI without Reprogrammable not being in a setting (because I'm shooting for a safetech space opera rather than transhumanist uploaded nanoswarms).
