Resolving Berserk Question

Greetings,

Can this happen as a Warrior?

1. Battle a creature that has +1 advantage over me.
2. I respond by Berserking and discarding just 1 card for a +1 bonus.
3. An opponent gives a +2 bonus to the creature I was battling.
4. I respond and discard 2 more cards to max out my Berserking ability of +3.
5. Win fight

I ask because the Berserk ability just says "you may discard up to 3 cards in combat."

What is considered "combat" in relation to time?

Can I treat the berserk ability like a creature ability in MtG, and just add it to the stack of effects?
