If it was a "common" knowledge detail, that would be one thing.
Plus the players are warned in the handout that there are changes to the world, and not everything they have read is going to be true. Especially for stuff farther away from where the campaign is based or where the character is from.
But when a player wants to argue about an obscure detail that their character would have no way of obtaining such information, or a mechanics detail. Such as rebuilding a NPC with an altered skill/class/level. Sorry there is no mercy in such cases.
Also, huge changes to things, will be listed in rumors, or given out as a known fact.
