Pathfinder/Summoner abilities question

I have a friend who used the pathfinder ability to discard one card and place it back on the top of the deck, then kick open the door.. but they used the summoner ability to discard a card to take the top monster if they discard from their pathfinder discard, before even kicking open the door that their pathfinder ability said to do. Is this a possible move?
