Default Question about the Green Reaper

The Green Reaper card from Munchkin Cowthulhu briefly states in its text how to use it if one does not have the rules for steeds at hand. It counts as a big item, but other big items can be used since it carries itself, and it requires one hand. Additionally, it says "1 hand" in the lower left corner.

My question is: If the rules for steeds are known by the players, does the Green Reaper still require one hand or does this slot then stay vacant?

It still requires one Hand. The Green Reaper must be steered.
