I know that the books Gurps Magic items 1-3 are for 3rd edition. Can they be used for 4th edition? I'm new to being a GM and wanted some resource to pull from and there aren't a whole lot for the 4th edition that i can find. can anyone shine some light on my situation?

They are fine for use with 4th edition.... the basic magic system only went through very minor alterations, and the magic item books had mostly "variant" versions of spells anyway.

The most common class of changed items are the ones that worked with skills and that's because of a few changes in particular Skills. If you can figure out that "Fencing" from 3e becomes "Rapier" in 4e you should be fine.
