discarding after killing a monster

So the rules say to discard the monster card plus any enhancers played. Does this mean if I have on armor and footwear and I have a weapon in my hand and use all the bonuses from those cards to kill the monster that I need to get rid of the armor and weapon since I used them in combat? Or are these items not considered enhancers? Any clarification would be nice.
