Magnificent Hat

Does the Magnificent Hat work on curses you're already afflicted with? It appears from reading the card that it only works against curses while equipped with it, which seems to me to mean the answer should be "No". I couldn't find anything like this from searching the rules, faq, errata, or these forums.
