Default Killing the Hireling

I have a Hireling in play and it is carrying an item for me. Another player throws the "Kill the Hireling" card to go up a level. Do I loot its body and get the item or do I discard it?

You discard it.

I just read the Munchkin 5 rules and is says: "If your Hireling is killed, you loot the body yourself and keep the items". Isn't this one of these cases?

You are correct; I got my wires crossed.

But Hirelins's card (M1) says if you lose your hireling, you lose the item too.

Cards trump rules, however, so I don't see this as a conflict.

So, please, for those who do not know English well. Just yes or no.
Do I discard Hireling's Item if someone kill him with "Kill a/the Hireling"? (Hireling from M1, M3, Legend or Pathfinder)

Yes, because that's what that card says.
