I wanted to know the speed of Temporary Respite when played by a player.
I know it isnt fast enough to stop the seventh seal from opening, but if played directly after another seal, would it in any way negate the opening effects of said seal. For example, I was a blogger and the highest level player, and there was 5 seals currecntly open, however the blogger down a level, highest level player down a level, and the doom seal had yet to be opened. One of the other players played a card that opened a seal and i declared i wanted to use respite on the opened seal; even before it was shown, the seal was the blogger down a level. It was decided by the party that i would go down a level and then the seal would be close. We also decided that if it was the Doom Seal, that we would open the seventh seal and then close the Doom Seal and then the new seal would be number six, and we'd keep playing. My problem is to me those rulings seemed to go against each other and I wanted an official ruling before we next play with this set. So, My question is can it counter a seal? If not then what is the exact order the events would take place? Last edited by Kaos Reeper; 04-06-2015 at 03:30 PM. |

It closes the topmost open Seal. However, in no way can it be used to prevent a Seal's effects from being resolved when opened because it doesn't say it can be used to prevent/cancel the opening of a Seal.

So the order is:
1)Card that opened a seal 2)Seal 3)Temporary Respite and it would resolve in that order? So if the sixth seal was doom and someone wanted to play temporary respite they would have to wait for doom to open the next seal, which would then end the game leaving it unplayed. And if so, could you play Temporary Respite in response to the open a seal card being played closing the 5th Seal, allowing Doom to be opened as the 5th seal and then open a 6th? |

Generally, you can't play cards in response to other cards because that's not how the game works. For a card to be played like that, it has to say it can cancel something (e.g., Presidential Proclamation can cancel a disaster, as can a character with the Militia Class by discarding two cards). If a card says to open a Seal, then you open a Seal, resolve the Seal's effects, and then you can play something. Of course, if the Seal says to open another Seal, then you have to wait for that Seal's effect to resolve before you can play something, and so on. If you want to prevent the 7th Seal from being opened in the scenario described, you'd have to play Temporary Respite before the effect that opened the 6th.
