Level 18 Orc-Epic Munchkin

My friend was a level 18 Orc and kicked down the door (Epic Munchkin) and an Elf and a Level 6 monster appeared. He ended up winning with an asterisk because we could agree whether he earned 2 levels for this monster...

Killing this monster yielded a level, putting him at 19.

It wasn't clear whether the Orc's ability of beating a monster by more than 10 and going up an extra level could count as the WINNING level or not.

Normally, I'd move a question involving epic play to the other forum, but since the answer applies even to normal play:

Any level achieved as part of killing a Monster counts towards the Winning Level. That means if some Race or Class gets an extra level for killing a certain type of Monster or by killing a Monster a certain way, or a Monster gives an extra level for being killed a certain way, that level can be the Winning Level. I.e., remove that asterisk: He won.
