Quarry query

A few nights ago we played our first game of munchkin using the Epic rules. Loved it, by the way. Although it did take 3 hours. That's beside the point. We also played with the demented dungeons expansion for the first time as well.

One of the portals read that every player was to go up a level. 3 of us were level 19, which would have ended the game in a three way tie. Would that go up a level work on a level 19 like divine intervention would? Or would we be exempt from that level?

The general rule still applies: you have to kill a monster to gain the winning level (in Epic, Level 19 as well) unless the card granting you the level explicitly says it can give you the winning level.
