We're using the same sheet.
As I understand it* bonuses from advantages aren't added to skills until after defaults would be calculated from them. With 8 points in public speaking she has a base skill of 12. Acting has a default of public speaking-5 for 7. After that's figured out we can add talents. +10 to public speaking from charisma, voice, & born entertainer bringing it up to 22. Acting only gets +4 from born entertainer bringing it up to11. Make sense? ____ *You May recall from Space Ruins' character creation where Matrix Walker set me straight on this. I could also of sworn I asked you about fixing my defaults but I'm having trouble finding the post. I used to have defaults based off of skills including talents so her acting was 22-5=17. Minus an extra two if voice wasn't applying or some such. |

I have 2 unspent points assuming my sheet is right. I assume it is but mistakes happen.
Looking at it again if I were to put in a point (edit: into acting) then it would go up to skill 13. So I can and will do that if you want me to. The only thing that irks me about that is that I'd rather just put 8 points into public speaking which would have the same affect raise a bunch of other skills and keep me from wasting points in acting after having raised my public speaking enough as per RAW even if that point in acting doesn't do anything it's still stuck there. Which is why my RL group has a rule for that. Last edited by Poonbahbah; 01-27-2015 at 09:23 PM. |

Defaults, defaults, defaults...
the personal seed of an idea for me is defaults giving 'phantom points' to the skills they default to at a specified rate. So instead of Acting defaulting to public speaking at -5, it defaults at 1/4 points. you count up the number of points in public speaking, divide them by four, and add them to the acting skill. Its a fairly good basic idea, but the devil is in the details, as always. What about fractional points? what about really close defaults? And so on. Still stewing on it and not at all ready to play with it. Anyway, the dice betrayed you, and it doesn't matter if you raise acting to 13 before or after this scene. Though your fast talk skill may need to get dusted off...

So to confirm: luck has already been used on this roll or previously today at some point in time? I know you sometimes forget and I haven't seen a yes or no yet in any of your responses.
_____ My groups house rule is that points spent to up defaults just keep working as you up the defaulted skill. Have guns (pistol) at stat +8 for [36] and played [8] to up rifle to +8 as well? Then rifle skill stays defaulted to pistol-0 as you raise pistol skill. |

That's not a house rule, that's the RAW.
