Halving Speed would have almost no effect anyway. Changing Sequence mid-fight breaks stuff; don't do this. It might effect Sequence in a later fight, and rolls for Contests of Fast-Draw (EDIT: No it doesn't) and such, though if you did it.

EDIT: Personally, I think that bit about half Speed is ignorable. Just like the completely conflicting use of "Unbalanced" on B269 and B376 ("U" Parry) versus B383 (double dagger Min ST).

Halving speed changes how dodge is figured, but it also affects other contests. Fast draws at high noon, etc.

Ignoring it is a pretty big change depending on campaign. Although halving dodge vs halving speed does make injury even MORE detrimental.

Actually it doesn't.

Like I said it does affect contests of Fast Draw (EDIT: this is wrong, actually) and would affect sequence if the character gets in another fight before healing.

Yeah, but I don't think I've ever used the Who Draws First rules.

That is clearly the actual rule. See also the example on p. B419 and there's no mention of halving Basic Speed at all.

Actually after reviewing Who Draws First , Basic Speed doesn't actually matter there at all (except in the event of combat already in progress in which case it has it's normal effect on Sequence).

So the only actual effect of halving Basic Speed would be if you get in another fight without healing first it should affect your sequence. I'm pretty comfortable with ignoring it.

Dodge: Your Dodge defense (see
Dodging, p. 374) equals Basic Speed +
3, dropping all fractions. For instance,
if your Basic Speed is 5.25, your Dodge
is 8. Encumbrance reduces Dodge; see
Encumbrance and Move (below). You
must roll under your Dodge on 3d to
duck or sidestep an attack.

But yep, based on example, the Halving basic speed is erroneous. I wonder if it's in the Errata...

Yes, I am aware of what Dodge is. That doesn't matter as Temporary penalties never reduce active defenses unless otherwise specified. The rule on B421 is very clear about this.
