But these days, licensed games aren't that great at earning money – especially "hot" ones (i.e. where the licensed material is selling *right now*, as opposed to e.g. stuff like GURPS New Sun or Riverworld). Not that it ever was that much better, considering how much luck stuff like Star Wars brought their respective companies. Apparently even a relative giant like WotC couldn't make enough money out of that one… |

"Malazan Book of the Fallen" back when it was especially popular would have seemed a natural fit for GURPS - the author even said it was based on their own GURPS campaign... Pity that for some reason a license wasn't possible.
Walter Jon Williams has even mentioned GURPS in some of his novels; pity that the only stuff he licensed went to R. Talsorian. |
