An interesting scenario occurred today when I played the Lurina Steed Chow card to steal Big Joe who was being played as a steed. As soon as I lured him, the original owner played a GUAL Kill a Steed card. This occurred before I had a chance to designate Big Joe a Steed or a Hireling.
My question is whether Big Joe( being a steed from his previous owner) is by default a steed when he is stolen. I would assume you first would need to designate what he is(Hireling or Steed) right after luring him before anyone can play any other cards. |

I'd say you lured him as a Steed, so he was still a Steed at the time, so Kill a Steed was a valid play. The card doesn't infer that you must declare him to be one or the other whenever he changes ownership, but more that you should choose his initial state when putting him into play. From then on, the current owner can change the state whenever they feel like it (except while resolving a played card of course).
