You just want Compartmentalized Mind if the Alternate Abilities is defined as a mental ability.

OK, what I am trying to do.

You need Telesend (Telecommunication) to establish a link with the subject.

If you require two way conversation you also need

Mind Reading.

However instead of Mind Reading you can do one of the below:

• Affliction as noted above
• Illusion
• Suggest (Mind Control)
• Mind Probe

2 Additional powers:

To find other telepaths:

Detect Telephathic Activity 10pts
Precise 100%
Signal Detection
Telepathic -10%

An Empathy that if too successful will end up mindreading the subject (ok takes a couple of seconds to Empathy, Telesend, Mind Read).

Empathy 11pts
Secondary Mind reading via Telecommunication -10%
Telepathic -10%
Unreliable -10%

Then you can't make Mind Reading and Telesend alternates. You need to be able to use them at the same time.

You can make these alternates with Mind Reading, then.

Buy Telesend at full price; the most expensive of the others at full price, and the rest at 1/5.

It can if you can't use it and any of the others at the same time, which seems to be what you are saying. Although I really don't understand how the Empathy is actually supposed to work.

Empathy is supposed to be as a normal Empathy, ok this one is a bit fickle.

However, if the roll is 5 or less, it means that the psi is mind reading as well, which could lead to embarrassing situations. Things like privacy or information theft. Generally cause the psi awkward moments.

I just noted that I do not need malediction for Mind Reading because Telesend counts as touching the subject.

Is this limitation published anywhere? It seem like an enhancement to me. Mind-Reading is better than Empathy and costs 2x as much besides.

Mind Reading already is basically a malediction; you can use it on anyone you can see and it's unaffected by DR but rather resisted.
